[02-17-2026] Riverside County, CA – Driver Arrested After Fatal Hit-and-Run Crash in Hemet

A driver was arrested after a hit-and-run crash that killed a person in Hemet early Tuesday morning, February 17, 2026.

According to the Hemet Police Department, officers were dispatched at about 3:08 a.m. to the crash at Sanderson Avenue and Florida Avenue. 

Upon arrival, they found a white Volkswagen sedan and a silver Honda involved in the crash. The driver of the Honda fled the scene before officers arrived.

The driver of the Volkswagen was found unresponsive, and officers began rendering aid until medical personnel took over. The driver was transported to a hospital, where they later died from their injuries.

The driver of the Honda was located a short distance from the scene and was arrested. A preliminary investigation determined that the Volkswagen was traveling westbound on Florida Avenue and attempting to make a U-turn near Sanderson Avenue when the Honda struck it. It remains unclear whether speed or running a red light contributed to the crash.

The identity of the deceased is being withheld pending next of kin notification.

Investigators believe impaired driving may have been a factor.
