[10-23-2025] Suspected DUI Driver Attempts Carjackings After Crash Near Bear Valley Road and Reata Road in Apple ValleyA suspected DUI driver attempted to carjack two vehicles after a crash in Apple Valley, San Bernardino County, on Thursday, October 23, 2025.

According to the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department, deputies responded to reports of a three-vehicle crash near Bear Valley Road and Reata Road shortly after 3:30 p.m. A California Highway Patrol helicopter was also dispatched to assist deputies. Authorities learned that one person involved in the crash had fled the scene.

Deputies and CHP officers observed the suspect vehicle fleeing to a parking lot near the intersection of Apple Valley Road and Bear Valley Road. The suspect, later identified as 29-year-old Damian Ponce, then attempted to carjack two occupied vehicles in the area.

Ponce was detained by deputies and arrested. He was found to be under the influence of narcotics and alcohol. Ponce was transported to High Desert Detention Center and booked for attempted carjacking, driving under the influence, and hit-and-run.

No injuries were reported in the crash.
