Two people were injured when a semi-truck crashed through a guardrail and plunged 200 feet near Lakehead, Shasta County, on Thursday afternoon, August 7, 2025.
Officials reported that the driver claimed a flat tire led to the accident, causing them to overcorrect and lose control.
The crash ignited a grass fire, consuming about an acre of land. Fire units from the Forest Service and Cal Fire quickly responded and were able to contain the blaze.
The California Highway Patrol stated that the truck’s occupants sustained moderate to major injuries. One person was transported to Mercy Medical Center in Mount Shasta, while the other was taken to Mercy Medical Center in Redding.
Authorities said the individuals were fortunate to survive the crash.
