A pedestrian was tragically killed after being struck by a driver suspected of being under the influence of drugs on Highway 273 in Redding on Thursday evening, August 7, 2025.
The collision occurred around 9:00 p.m. near South Bonnyview Road when a southbound white Dodge minivan hit the pedestrian. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.
Redding police arrested the driver for driving under the influence of drugs. The southbound lanes of Highway 273 were temporarily closed for investigation but have since reopened.
Authorities have not yet released the identity of the arrested driver or the name of the deceased pedestrian, which will be disclosed once the family has been notified.
