A man was killed and two others, including a 3-year-old child, suffered major injuries following a two-vehicle crash in Fresno early Sunday morning, May 17, 2026.
According to the California Highway Patrol, officers responded to the incident at around 2:25 a.m. on southbound Highway 41 near Highway 180.
Authorities stated that a 31-year-old Selma man driving a Toyota Camry had stopped in the No. 2 lane of the highway for reasons still under investigation.
A 33-year-old Fresno woman driving a Kia Optima in the same lane then collided with the rear of the Toyota. The impact caused both vehicles to spin across the roadway before coming to rest in separate lanes.
The driver of the Toyota was transported to a hospital, where he later died. A man riding in the Kia sustained major injuries and was hospitalized. A 3-year-old child inside the Kia also suffered life-threatening injuries and was transported for treatment.
Officials said the child was restrained with a seat belt but was not secured in a child safety seat. The driver of the Kia sustained minor injuries.
Alcohol impairment is suspected to have been a factor involving the Toyota driver, pending toxicology and coroner analyses.
Authorities continue to investigate the cause of the crash.
