[08-21-2025] Man Arrested After Shooting Incident Leads to Hit-and-Run Crashes on Highway 101 and John Street in SalinasOne person was injured and a man was arrested following a shooting and two hit-and-run crashes in Salinas on Thursday night, August 21, 2025.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the Monterey Communications Center received ShotSpotter activations around 7:18 p.m. indicating gunfire on southbound Highway 101 between Laurel Drive and John Street. Both activations confirmed firearm discharges.

Shortly after, CHP received reports of two separate crashes in the same area: a non-injury hit-and-run on the southbound Highway 101 off-ramp to John Street, and an injury hit-and-run on John Street just past the off-ramp.

Officers located an abandoned vehicle nearby. The suspect was later found at an apartment complex in Salinas, where he was arrested without incident.

Authorities said two firearms were recovered. The man was booked into the Monterey County Jail on multiple charges, including felony DUI, two counts of hit-and-run, and firearms-related offenses.
