[07-27-2025] San Luis Obispo County, CA – Child Seriously Injured After Being Struck by Pickup Truck at Lopez Lake Parking Lot

A child was seriously injured after being struck by a pickup truck in the Mustang Water Slides parking lot at Lopez Lake in San Luis Obispo County on Sunday evening, July 27, 2025.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the incident occurred at approximately 6:40 p.m. while the child was riding a tricycle in the parking lot.

The driver of the pickup truck was exiting the lot when he felt an impact. After stopping and exiting the vehicle, he discovered the child underneath the truck.

CHP reported that the child was alert but sustained major injuries. The child was airlifted by helicopter to Cottage Hospital in Santa Barbara for treatment.

County park rangers were first on the scene and provided care until paramedics arrived. The incident took place in a day-use parking area within the Lopez Lake recreation area.

Authorities have not released the child’s identity. The San Luis Obispo Area CHP office is handling the investigation.

Authorities continue to investigate the crash.
