A woman suffered severe injuries after reportedly jumping from a moving vehicle on Highway 299 near McArthur, Shasta County, on Tuesday afternoon, July 22, 2025.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the incident occurred at approximately 2:00 p.m. just east of McArthur. Authorities said 34-year-old Dia Barris of Fall River Mills jumped from the back seat of a Honda van traveling at approximately 55 miles per hour.
Barris sustained head injuries and lost consciousness at the scene. She also suffered injuries to her torso and limbs. She was airlifted to Mercy Medical Center for treatment.
The driver of the van, identified as 52-year-old Gary King of McArthur, remained at the scene and called 911. CHP confirmed that the reason for Barris’ actions is unclear but stated that she was not suicidal.
The incident remains under investigation.
