[07-13-2025] San Diego County, CA – Child Killed in Scooter Collision with Vehicle on Tango Loop in Chula Vista

An 8-year-old boy died after being struck by a vehicle while riding a stand-up electric scooter in Chula Vista on Sunday afternoon, July 13, 2025.

According to the Chula Vista Police Department, the crash occurred around 2:14 p.m. in the 2000 block of Tango Loop. Officers and fire personnel responded to a 911 call and found the child pinned under a black Audi sedan.

Authorities said the boy had been riding his scooter when he was hit by the vehicle. With the help of bystanders, first responders used a rolling hydraulic jack to lift the car and free the child.

The boy was transported to Rady Children’s Hospital, where he later died from his injuries. His identity has not been released pending notification of family.

Police stated that drugs and alcohol are not believed to be factors in the crash, and no other vehicles were involved. The Chula Vista Police Department Traffic Bureau is investigating the incident.
