A 55-year-old motorcyclist was killed in a collision with an SUV in the Eastlake area of Oakland on Wednesday morning, July 9, 2025.
According to local authorities, the crash occurred around 9:08 a.m. at the intersection of Fifth Avenue and East 10th Street.
The victim, identified as Eric P. of Alameda, was riding southbound on Fifth Avenue alongside another motorcyclist when both collided with an SUV traveling eastbound.
Eric was ejected from his motorcycle and transported to a hospital, where he later died from his injuries. Police noted that both riders were wearing helmets at the time of the incident.
The second motorcyclist fled the scene on foot and has not yet been identified. The SUV driver remained at the scene and cooperated with the investigation.
Authorities are exploring whether the motorcyclists may have run a red light. The investigation is ongoing.
