A 24-year-old man was killed in a crash involving a big rig in the Sunset area of Sutter County, south of Live Oak, early Friday morning, June 27, 2025.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the collision occurred around 4:27 a.m. on northbound Highway 99, just south of Paseo Road.
Officers arrived to find a compact car blocking a traffic lane and a big rig that had crashed into a nearby fence.
The driver of the compact car was pronounced dead at the scene due to his injuries. His identity has not yet been released.
CHP stated that no witnesses were present at the time of the crash. It was reported by a passerby who noticed the wreckage. Investigators do not believe drugs or alcohol played a role in the incident.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
