A woman was killed and a man sustained minor injuries in a head-on crash that appeared to involve alcohol in East Oakland, Alameda County, early Sunday morning, June 8, 2025.
According to the Oakland Police Department, the incident occurred around 2:40 a.m. in the 6300 block of San Leandro Street.
A 28-year-old woman was driving a Honda Civic eastbound in the westbound lanes when she collided head-on with a westbound Ford cargo van.
Following the initial crash, a westbound Nissan Altima was sideswiped by an Infiniti SUV, which then struck the Honda while the woman was still inside. The driver of the Infiniti fled the scene.
The woman was pronounced dead at the scene. Police reported finding an open container of alcohol in the Honda and said alcohol is believed to be a factor in the crash. The 66-year-old man driving the Ford van was taken to the hospital with minor injuries.
Authorities are still searching for the Infiniti driver and vehicle. The investigation remains ongoing.
