Two people sustained injuries and were airlifted to a hospital after being trapped in a burning vehicle that caused a temporary shutdown of eastbound Interstate 80 in Placer County on Thursday afternoon, May 29, 2025.
According to Cal Fire, the incident occurred around 4:50 p.m. near the Blue Canyon Road offramp, west of Emigrant Gap. Emergency crews arrived to find a passenger vehicle on fire off the roadway.
Firefighters extricated both occupants from the burning vehicle and extinguished the fire. The two injured individuals were transported by air ambulance to a nearby hospital for treatment. Their conditions remain unknown at this time.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
