[05-03-2025] Vehicle Crashes Into Creek Off Avila Beach Drive, Two Occupants RescuedTwo people were rescued after a vehicle crashed into San Luis Obispo Creek off Avila Beach Drive on Saturday afternoon, May 3, 2025.

According to the California Highway Patrol, officers received a report at approximately 3:05 p.m. of a vehicle about 20 feet off the roadway near the green pedestrian bridge.

 The vehicle had overturned and landed on its roof, initially trapping one occupant while another was outside the vehicle.

A short time later, both individuals were safely outside the vehicle, according to the CHP incident log. Emergency crews closed the westbound lanes of Avila Beach Drive around 3:10 p.m. to facilitate the rescue and recovery efforts.

A tow truck was requested to remove the overturned vehicle from the creek. As of 3:40 p.m., traffic was being redirected to northbound Ontario Road while recovery operations continued.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
