[12-27-2024] One Killed, Another Injured Following High-Speed Crash on Hawthorne Boulevard in TorranceA 31-year-old Inglewood man was killed following a car crash in Torrance on early Friday morning, December 27, 2024.

The incident occurred at approximately 5:45 a.m. in the 18800 block of Hawthorne Boulevard near 190th Street, according to the Torrance Police Department.

The crash involved a gray 2024 Nissan Sentra, which was traveling northbound on Hawthorne Boulevard at a high rate of speed. 

Preliminary investigations revealed that the driver, a 46-year-old Hawthorne man, lost control while navigating a curve, causing the vehicle to strike an electric support pole on the east curb.

Emergency responders arrived to find the driver with major injuries. He was transported by ambulance to a nearby hospital for treatment. Tragically, the passenger was pronounced dead at the scene. His identity has been withheld pending notification of next of kin.

Hawthorne Boulevard’s northbound lanes were closed for about four hours between 190th and 188th streets as authorities conducted an investigation and cleared the scene.

The Torrance Police Department’s Traffic Division is leading the investigation.
