[11-22-2024] 12-Year-Old Killed, 11-Year-Old Injured After Suspected DUI Crash in South BakersfieldA 12-year-old child was killed, and an 11-year-old sustained major injuries after a DUI-related collision in south Bakersfield on Friday night, November 24, 2024.

The Bakersfield Police Department reported that the crash occurred at approximately 7:24 p.m. at the intersection of Hosking Avenue and South Union Avenue. 

A Chevrolet SUV traveling northbound on South Union Avenue collided with a Honda sedan making an eastbound-to-northbound left turn from Hosking Avenue.

Both child passengers in the Honda sedan were transported to Kern Medical with major injuries. Tragically, the 12-year-old was later pronounced dead at the hospital.

The driver of the Chevrolet SUV was suspected to be under the influence of alcohol and was arrested on charges including reckless driving, gross vehicular manslaughter, and DUI-related offenses. Police also noted that excessive speed might have contributed to the crash.

The investigation is ongoing.
