A 46-year-old man, identified as John E. was killed, and a 29-year-old woman, Alexis M. was injured after they were struck by a vehicle while crossing Grand Avenue in Santa Ana on Tuesday evening, November 12, 2024.
According to the police, the collision occurred at the intersection of Grand Avenue and St. Andrew Place at around 6:00 p.m.
Authorities stated that the two were arguing near a bus bench before the man followed the woman as she crossed eastbound across the southbound lanes of traffic. As he attempted to help her back to the sidewalk to avoid oncoming traffic, they were struck by a southbound car.
The man died from his injuries at the scene, while the woman was hospitalized and is expected to survive.
The driver of the vehicle remained at the scene and is cooperating with investigators. No signs of intoxication were found.
The investigation is ongoing.
