Two drivers sustained serious injuries after a wrong-way crash on Interstate 5 near Torrey Pines in San Diego on Monday evening, November 11, 2024.
According to the authorities, the crash was reported around 8:15 p.m. on the freeway near Carmel Valley Road.
Officials said that a 38-year-old man, driving a Toyota Prius south in the northbound lanes, collided head-on with a Toyota RAV4 driven by a 37-year-old man.
Both men, residents of Carlsbad, were transported to a nearby hospital for treatment of their injuries.
California Highway Patrol officials are investigating the cause of the crash and whether drugs or alcohol played a role. Further details are not yet available.
