A pedestrian was injured after being struck by a vehicle that ran into a fire hydrant in Berkeley on Sunday night, November 10, 2024.
According to Berkeley police, the crash occurred at approximately 9:30 p.m. at the intersection of San Pablo Avenue and Gilman Street.
The pedestrian was transported to Highland Hospital “code 3,” with lights and sirens, after the collision. Police report that the pedestrian was conscious and talking, appearing to be in stable condition, though initially described as bleeding from the head and unconscious before regaining consciousness at the scene.
The driver was arrested, and his identity has not been released pending booking. The crash also caused a geyser from a sheared fire hydrant on the west side of San Pablo near the Chevron gas station.
DUI is suspected to be a factor in the collision. The investigation into the incident is ongoing.
