A woman died after being hit by two vehicles on Panama Lane in Bakersfield early Sunday morning, October 27, 2024.
According to the Bakersfield Police Department, at around 5:30 a.m., officers were dispatched to the 18000 block of Panama Lane regarding a crash involving a pedestrian. Upon arrival, they found a woman suffering from major injuries, who was pronounced dead at the scene.
A preliminary investigation revealed that the driver of a pickup truck was traveling westbound on Panama Lane when the pedestrian, who was in the roadway outside of a crosswalk, was struck. The pickup driver remained at the scene and cooperated with the investigation.
While the pickup driver was calling 911 to report the emergency, a second vehicle, described as an unknown make and model sedan, ran over the woman and fled the scene.
The investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident is ongoing.
