A multi-vehicle collision on northbound Interstate 680 near the Rudgear Road exit in Alamo, Contra Costa County, resulted in one fatality and significant lane closures on early Friday morning, October 25, 2024.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the crash was reported around 6:00 a.m., prompting the closure of four lanes on northbound I-680 and one lane on the southbound side.
Emergency responders arrived to assist with traffic control and investigate the crash site. By 7:40 a.m., the CHP reopened two right-hand lanes on the northbound side, while the remaining two left lanes stayed closed as the investigation continued. A Sig Alert was issued, warning drivers of severe delays in the area.
The CHP has not yet provided details on the cause of the crash or released the identity of the deceased, pending notification of relatives. The investigation remains ongoing.
