[10-19-2024] 1 Dead, 1 Hospitalized in Multi-Vehicle Crash along Highway 101’s Southbound LaneA man was killed and his passenger was hospitalized following a crash involving five vehicles along Highway 101’s southbound lane in Monterey County on Saturday morning, October 19, 2024.

The California Highway Patrol is investigating the accident, which happened at around 11:45 a.m.

According to CHP, a 16-year-old male from Salinas was driving a 2021 Chevrolet 2500 while towing a trailer when he struck a Chevrolet Colorado ahead of him. The impact caused Colorado to lose control and rollover.

The driver of the Colorado, a 49-year-old man from Salinas, was pronounced dead at the scene, while his passenger was transported to Natividad Medical Center for treatment of injuries.

The initial crash further caused a chain reaction,  resulting in additional crashes involving three more vehicles. Fortunately, the driver and passenger of a white Honda Accord, the driver of the white Chevrolet 2500, and the driver and passenger of a maroon Toyota Sienna all reported no injuries.

CHP says alcohol is not a suspected factor in the crash, all drivers involved were licensed, and any pending charges are still under investigation.

Further information on the individuals involved will come from Monterey County’s Sheriff’s Office.

Don’t Know What To Do After An Accident?

Your safety and rights depend on what you do next after an accident. Remember the following steps if you find yourself in one:

  • Check yourself for any injuries.
  • Stay on the scene, call 9-1-1, and wait for emergency responders.
  • Move your vehicle to the road shoulder if safe; turn on hazard lights.
  • Fully cooperate with law enforcement and stay until cleared to leave.
  • Document the scene and injuries with photos and videos.
  • Seek immediate medical attention.
  • Contact your insurance company and find a personal injury lawyer for legal advice.

What A Lawyer Can Do For You

Many victims put off calling a lawyer even if they sustain injuries after an accident. However, lawyers can help you in many ways. They can provide you with police reports, CCTV footage, and witness statements to strengthen your case. Your attorney will also negotiate with insurance companies to get you fair compensation. The best part is that they will do all of these things for you at no upfront cost. So if you’re injured in an accident, hire a personal injury attorney to recover medical bills, car repair costs, lost wages, and pain and suffering.
