A 60-year-old man died on Thursday, October 17, 2024, following a two-vehicle collision that occurred over the weekend on Highway 99 in Delhi, Merced County.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the crash happened on Saturday, October 12, 2024, at around 7:01 p.m. near the southbound off-ramp at Shanks Road.
A 26-year-old Sacramento man driving a 2013 Hyundai exited Highway 99, stopped at the posted stop sign, and then proceeded into the intersection for unknown reasons, failing to yield the right of way.
The Hyundai was struck by a 1996 Chevrolet pickup truck, driven by the 60-year-old man. Both vehicles collided and hit a metal guardrail. The 26-year-old sustained minor injuries and remained at the scene, while the 60-year-old was taken to the hospital, where he later died.
Authorities confirmed that drugs and alcohol were not factors in the crash. The investigation is ongoing.
