A man was killed after being struck by a pickup truck on South King Street in Bakersfield on Wednesday evening, October 16, 2024.
According to the Bakersfield Police Department, the incident occurred around 7:29 p.m. when officers were called to the area near the Union Cemetery on Potomac Avenue.
Upon arrival, officers found the man suffering from major injuries in the 900 block of South King Street. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigations revealed that the driver of a green pickup truck was traveling southbound on South King Street when the unidentified man, who was outside of a crosswalk, was struck. The driver of the pickup truck cooperated with police and remained at the scene.
Police indicated that unsafe speed and impairment do not appear to be factors in the collision. The identity of the deceased man will be released later by the Kern County Coroner’s Office as officials continue their investigation.
