[10-02-2024] Grandmother Killed, Granddaughter Critically Injured After Suspected DUI Crash in UplandAn 83-year-old woman was killed, and her granddaughter was critically injured after a suspected DUI crash in Upland on Wednesday afternoon, October 2, 2024.

The crash occurred around 4:00 p.m. at the intersection of Euclid Avenue and 15th Street. Barbara T., 83, of Rancho Cucamonga, was driving with her adult granddaughter when a speeding vehicle struck them as they attempted to cross the intersection.

Witnesses reported seeing the vehicle, driven by 25-year-old Jose R., traveling at excessive speed before the collision. Emergency crews used hydraulic tools to extricate the victims, but the woman was pronounced dead, and her granddaughter remains in critical condition.

The speeding vehicle was arrested at the scene after displaying signs of intoxication. He was found to have a blood alcohol content twice the legal limit and was previously arrested for DUI in July 2024.

Authorities have booked the suspect on charges of murder and DUI causing great bodily injury. The San Bernardino County District Attorney’s Office is reviewing the case for additional charges.

The investigation is ongoing.
