[09-24-2024] Pedestrian Struck After High-Speed Pursuit Near Avalon BoulevardA man suspected of an unspecified felony was taken into custody after eluding law enforcement in a high-speed chase that resulted in a pedestrian being injured in South Los Angeles on Tuesday evening, September 24, 2024.

The pursuit began in the Torrance area near the San Diego (405) and Harbor (110) freeways, where the suspect drove erratically in a red Lexus sedan, reaching speeds over 100 mph.

California Highway Patrol officers continued to pursue the suspect along the Pomona (60) Freeway, onto the Orange (57) Freeway in Diamond Bar, and the Riverside (91) Freeway in Anaheim, during which the driver occasionally operated the vehicle with the lights turned off.  CHP officers attempted several PIT maneuvers to terminate the chase but were unsuccessful.

The suspect later struck a pedestrian near Avalon Boulevard and 84th Place in South Los Angeles before colliding with another vehicle. The extent of the pedestrian’s injuries remains unknown. 

The suspect was apprehended shortly before 9:10 p.m. There is no additional information immediately available.

The investigation is ongoing.
