[09-24-2024] 18-Year-Old Driver Killed, Two Others Injured After Two-Vehicle Collision Near Palm DesertAn 18-year-old driver was killed and two others were injured after a two-vehicle collision near Palm Desert on Tuesday morning, September 24, 2024.

The fatality occurred just before 8:00 a.m. on Varner Road, just east of 38th Avenue, according to a statement from the California Highway Patrol.

The motorist, from Cathedral City, was heading eastbound in his Lexus sedan when he veered onto the right shoulder and lost control. Authorities reported that he overcorrected to the left, crossing over the dividing lines into the westbound lane, where he collided with the pickup truck.

The truck, initially reported as a construction vehicle, was later identified as a white Ford hauling a utility trailer. It was occupied by two men who were traveling westbound at the time of the collision; both sustained injuries.

Paramedics pronounced the 18-year-old dead at the scene. His identity has not been disclosed.

The investigation is ongoing.
