Two drivers sustained injuries after a head-on collision on Interstate 8 in Imperial County on Friday morning, September 20, 2024.
The crash occurred around 6:40 a.m. just past Gordon’s Well Road, involving a subcompact SUV and a pickup truck, both of which were destroyed in the impact.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the SUV driver crossed over the median and collided head-on with the pickup.
The 70-year-old woman driving the SUV was airlifted to Desert Regional Medical Center in Palm Springs with major injuries. The 28-year-old man driving the truck was transported to Yuma Regional Medical Center with moderate injuries. Both victims were reported to be responsive.
The cause of the SUV crossing the median remains under investigation, and no criminal charges have been filed at this time.
