[08-24-2024] Man Dies After Being Struck by Vehicle at South Union Avenue and Panama Lane in BakersfieldA man died from his injuries after being struck by a vehicle in Bakersfield on Saturday evening, August 24, 2024.

The Bakersfield Police Department reported that the incident occurred around 8:40 p.m. at the intersection of South Union Avenue and Panama Lane.

Authorities stated that a white Honda sport utility vehicle, traveling southbound on South Union Avenue, entered the intersection on a green traffic signal. The pedestrian, who was walking westbound across the southbound lanes just south of the intersection, was struck by the vehicle.

Officers found the man with severe injuries in the 6500 block of South Union Avenue. He was transported by ambulance to a hospital, where he later died from his injuries on August 25, 2024.

Officials said the vehicle’s driver stopped at the scene and cooperated with the investigation. Unsafe speed and impairment do not appear to have caused the crash.
