INJURED IN AN ACCIDENT?

[08-05-2024] San Francisco County, CA – One Person Killed After Vehicle Vs. Big Rig Collision Along I-80 in Oakland

One person was killed after a vehicle vs. big rig collision in Oakland on Monday afternoon, August 5, 2024.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the incident occurred at about 1:20 p.m. on eastbound I-80 just west of the Bay Bridge toll plaza near the lanes connecting to I-880.

Officers from the CHP’s San Francisco Area Office responded to a report of a two-vehicle traffic crash involving a gold Honda Accord and a big rig. Chopper footage from the aftermath showed the Honda with major front-end damage, indicating it had likely rear-ended the big rig.

Responders arrived on the scene and determined that the driver and sole occupant of the Honda had suffered fatal injuries and died at the scene. The driver of the big rig did not sustain any injuries. None of the parties involved have been identified yet.

The initial response to the crash blocked the two right lanes of the freeway. At 2:12 p.m., one right lane of I-80 remained closed, causing significant traffic delays. Eastbound traffic approaching the Bay Bridge from San Francisco was backed up to the I-80/I-280 interchange.

The official cause of the incident is still under investigation. It is not immediately known if alcohol, drugs, or speeding played a role in the deadly collision.

Investigations are underway.

Don’t Know What To Do After An Accident?

Your safety and rights depend on what you do next after an accident. Remember the following steps if you find yourself in one:

  • Check yourself for any injuries.
  • Stay on the scene, call 9-1-1, and wait for emergency responders.
  • Move your vehicle to the road shoulder if safe; turn on hazard lights.
  • Fully cooperate with law enforcement and stay until cleared to leave.
  • Document the scene and injuries with photos and videos.
  • Seek immediate medical attention.
  • Contact your insurance company and find a personal injury lawyer for legal advice.

What A Lawyer Can Do For You

Many victims put off calling a lawyer even if they sustain injuries after an accident. However, lawyers can help you in many ways. They can provide you with police reports, CCTV footage, and witness statements to strengthen your case. Your attorney will also negotiate with insurance companies to get you fair compensation. The best part is that they will do all of these things for you at no upfront cost. So if you’re injured in an accident, hire a personal injury attorney to recover medical bills, car repair costs, lost wages, and pain and suffering.
