A 12-year-old pedestrian was killed after being struck by a vehicle in south San Jose on Tuesday afternoon, August 6, 2024.
According to the San Jose Police Department, the fatal crash occurred around 4:30 p.m. on Camden Avenue near the Cambrian Park neighborhood.
Video footage from the scene showed a yellow scooter lying in the intersection, implying that the child was riding it before being struck. It is still unclear how the collision happened, but authorities reported that the child was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police confirmed that the driver remained at the scene and is fully cooperating with the investigation.
The westbound direction of Camden Avenue between Leigh and Charmeran Avenues was closed, causing significant traffic disruptions.
