A pedestrian was killed after being struck by a vehicle in San Diego early Thursday morning, August 1, 2024.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the fatal incident happened shortly before 4:00 a.m. in the South Bay area on southbound Interstate 5 near Dairy Mart Road within the San Ysidro district.
CHP reported that the pedestrian was struck by a white Ford Fusion along southbound I-5 for still unknown reasons. What the victim was doing along the roadway when the accident occurred was undisclosed.
The victim, whose name, age, and gender were not provided, died as a result of the crash. Meanwhile, there is no word yet on whether the Ford driver was injured or remained at the scene.
The official cause of the accident is still under investigation. It is not immediately known if alcohol, drugs, or speeding played a role.
Authorities closed off all three lanes of southbound Interstate 5 for about three hours as the investigation ensued.
