[07-26-2024] Two People Killed Following Single-Vehicle Collision Along Highway 1 Near Devil’s SlideTwo people were killed following a single-vehicle collision in San Mateo County on Friday morning, July 26, 2024.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the deadly incident occurred just before 11:40 a.m. along southbound Highway 1 in the area of Devil’s Slide between Pacifica and Montara and south of Tom Lantos Tunnel.

CHP said that the incident involved a gray, two-door sedan. Upon arrival, officers found the crashed vehicle approximately 300 to 400 feet down an embankment. The circumstances surrounding the crash remain unclear.

Responders rappelled down the steep embankment to where the wreckage was to save or recover the sedan’s occupants. A helicopter was called to assist but could not fly safely due to weather conditions.

CHP then reported two fatalities as a result of the incident. The names, ages, and genders of the two people who may have died were not released.

The official cause of the accident is still under investigation.
