[07-24-2024] Wheelchaired Pedestrian Critically Injured After Being Struck by Vehicle in ChicoA wheelchaired pedestrian was critically injured after being struck by a vehicle in Chico on Wednesday afternoon, July 24, 2024.

According to the Chico Police Department, the crash happened around 12:41 p.m. at the intersection of East 12th Street and Park Avenue.

The responding medical crew rushed the pedestrian to a nearby hospital for treatment. The victim, who police said was in a wheelchair, suffered major injuries and is currently in critical condition. Further information regarding the identity of the victim and their current condition is yet to be released.

Preliminary reports suggested that the person behind the wheel of the unspecified vehicle that struck the victim was texting and driving before the incident.

The authorities shut down the traffic around the crash site while they investigated. CPD will provide further information as their investigation progresses.
