INJURED IN AN ACCIDENT?

[07-18-2024] Alameda County, CA – One Person Killed, Another Injured After Five-Vehicle Collision Involving Big Rig Along I-680 in Fremont

One person was killed, while another was injured after a five-vehicle collision involving a big rig in Fremont on Thursday morning, July 18, 2024.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the deadly incident happened around 7:05 a.m. on southbound Interstate 680 just north of the Mission Boulevard exit.

CHP said that a big rig filled with refrigerated meat, for some reason, went out of control and jackknifed about 20 feet off the roadway and down a nearby embankment. This started a massive pileup involving four other unspecified vehicles.

Officers then confirmed that a driver from one of the cars that got involved in the wreck died as a result of the accident. Authorities have yet to identify the deceased, pending the notification of the family.

Another person reportedly suffered minor injuries. It is still unclear if the injured individual was also a driver or a passenger in one of the five vehicles involved. Apart from that, no other injuries were reported at this time.

The cause of the massive crash is still under investigation. It is not immediately known if alcohol, drugs, or speeding played a role in it.

All lanes of southbound I-680 around the crash site were closed off except for the express lane.

The authorities will provide further information as the investigation progresses.

Don’t Know What To Do After An Accident?

Your safety and rights depend on what you do next after an accident. Remember the following steps if you find yourself in one:

  • Check yourself for any injuries.
  • Stay on the scene, call 9-1-1, and wait for emergency responders.
  • Move your vehicle to the road shoulder if safe; turn on hazard lights.
  • Fully cooperate with law enforcement and stay until cleared to leave.
  • Document the scene and injuries with photos and videos.
  • Seek immediate medical attention.
  • Contact your insurance company and find a personal injury lawyer for legal advice.

What A Lawyer Can Do For You

Many victims put off calling a lawyer even if they sustain injuries after an accident. However, lawyers can help you in many ways. They can provide you with police reports, CCTV footage, and witness statements to strengthen your case. Your attorney will also negotiate with insurance companies to get you fair compensation. The best part is that they will do all of these things for you at no upfront cost. So if you’re injured in an accident, hire a personal injury attorney to recover medical bills, car repair costs, lost wages, and pain and suffering.
