[07-15-2024] San Diego County, CA – Female Passenger Injured After Police Pursuit Led to Two Separate Crashes Near Taylor Street

A female passenger was injured after a police pursuit led to two separate crashes in San Diego on Monday afternoon, July 15, 2024.

According to the San Diego Police Department, the incidents occurred shortly after 5:00 p.m. on Interstate 5 and Taylor Street.

SDPD was reportedly trying to pull over a Nissan sedan with an expired registration around Sea World Drive and Friars Road when its male driver suddenly sped off, prompting a pursuit. The suspect ran a red light and headed towards southbound I-5, where the Nissan hit another vehicle.

Police said the suspect then headed onto eastbound I-8 and into the area of Taylor Street. He supposedly lost control of the car there, causing it to strike yet another vehicle before overturning. The suspect exited the vehicle after the second crash and then ran on foot north across the freeway.

The male driver of the Nissan left the female passenger with him at the time of the accident. She reportedly sustained unspecified injuries and was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment.

SDPD then confirmed that no one from the two other vehicles the Nissan struck while fleeing the police got injured immediately following their respective crashes.

None of the people involved have been identified publicly yet. At the time of this writing, the runaway driver is still at large.

The authorities are still investigating the incident. Further information will be provided as soon as it becomes available.

Police work is underway.

Don’t Know What To Do After An Accident?

Your safety and rights depend on what you do next after an accident. Remember the following steps if you find yourself in one:

  • Check yourself for any injuries.
  • Stay on the scene, call 9-1-1, and wait for emergency responders.
  • Move your vehicle to the road shoulder if safe; turn on hazard lights.
  • Fully cooperate with law enforcement and stay until cleared to leave.
  • Document the scene and injuries with photos and videos.
  • Seek immediate medical attention.
  • Contact your insurance company and find a personal injury lawyer for legal advice.

What A Lawyer Can Do For You

Many victims put off calling a lawyer even if they sustain injuries after an accident. However, lawyers can help you in many ways. They can provide you with police reports, CCTV footage, and witness statements to strengthen your case. Your attorney will also negotiate with insurance companies to get you fair compensation. The best part is that they will do all of these things for you at no upfront cost. So if you’re injured in an accident, hire a personal injury attorney to recover medical bills, car repair costs, lost wages, and pain and suffering.
