[07-09-2024] Driver Killed Following Two-Vehicle Collision on Highway 25 in HollisterA driver was killed following a two-vehicle collision in Hollister on Tuesday night, July 9, 2024. 

According to the Hollister Police Department, the crash happened around 9:10 p.m. at the intersection of Hillcrest Road and Highway 25.

Authorities stated that a vehicle was seen traveling at a high rate of speed, approximately 75 to 100 mph, going on southbound Highway 25 from Gilroy. When the vehicle got into the intersection at Hillcrest Road, the driver, for unknown reasons, appeared to run a red light and was rear-ended by another car traveling westbound on Hillcrest Road.

The impact of the crash caused the speeding car to spin out, struck a traffic pole, and wrapped around it. Upon the arrival of the police, the speeding driver, identified only as an adult male, was found trapped inside the damaged vehicle. He sustained severe injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. 

The other driver of the car that struck the speeding vehicle was possibly injured, but the officials have yet to confirm this. As of this writing, their current condition was not immediately known.

The name of the deceased will be disclosed by the San Benito County Sheriff’s Office once the next of kin is notified. Drugs and alcohol are being investigated as possible factors in the collision.

No further information was provided. Police work is underway.
