[06-29-2024] One Person Hospitalized After Pedestrian Vs. Vehicle DUI Collision in BerkeleyOne person was hospitalized after a pedestrian vs. vehicle DUI collision in Berkeley early Saturday morning, June 29. 2024.

According to the Berkeley Police Department, the traffic incident occurred just after 1:30 a.m. on San Pablo Avenue and Cedar Street.

The circumstances behind the crash remain unclear, but it is suspected that DUI was involved. When police arrived, they found the pedestrian in the middle of the street, surrounded by debris from the items in the shopping cart he was apparently pushing. 

Authorities confirmed that the injured pedestrian was conscious and breathing when they got to him. He was rushed to the Highland Hospital for further medical care. The victim’s identity and current condition were not disclosed.

The driver, later identified as 43-year-old Carl B. from Berkeley, remained on the scene and cooperated with the police. He was subsequently arrested on suspicion of felony DUI causing injury and is being held in Berkeley Jail with a $195,000 bail.

Further details were not immediately provided. The accident is still under investigation.
