According to the California Highway Patrol, the fatal traffic crash happened around 4:27 a.m. at the northbound Highway 99 at Fulkerth Road.

CHP, Turlock Police, Turlock Fire, and American Medical Response responded to the scene. Upon arrival, authorities found the wreckage between the off-ramp and on-ramp.

The caller reported that two vehicles were involved in the crash, with one allegedly driving southbound along the northbound lanes before the accident. One of the vehicles involved is said to have ended up in a nearby embankment. 

The two occupants of the supposed wrong-way car escaped the scene on foot, but police apprehended them shortly after. The suspects were not identified. 

Authorities confirmed that the accident resulted in injuries but did not give out any further information regarding it. The number of people inside the other struck vehicle was also undisclosed.

The No. 3 northbound lane of Highway 99 was blocked while the authorities investigated and cleared the crash site. Other motorists were advised to avoid the area if possible.

The investigation is underway.
