A man was injured after being struck by a vehicle in Merced County on Saturday morning, June 15, 2024.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the collision happened around 8:30 a.m. on Highway 59 and Reilly Road.
Authorities stated that a man in his mid-20s to 30s ran into the roadway, and a semi-truck managed to swerve past him. However, a Honda Civic traveling behind the semi-truck failed to avoid the pedestrian, resulting in the collision.
Upon arrival of the police, the victim was found lying on the roadway with injuries. He was airlifted to a Modesto hospital and is in critical condition. Details on his identity were not provided as of writing.
Police said the Civic driver remained at the scene and cooperated with the investigation. The cause of the crash is still under investigation.
