[05-29-2024] 24-Year-Old Man Killed After Speeding Head-On Collision in Rancho Tehama ReserveA 24-year-old man was killed after a speeding head-on collision in Rancho Tehama Reserve, Tehama County, on Wednesday afternoon, May 29, 2024.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the fatal crash occurred at about 4:40 p.m. along Hillcrest Drive west of Oak Park Road.

CHP said that the 24-year-old man was driving eastbound on Hillcrest Drive in a home-built ATV. At the same time, 51-year-old Maria F. of Corning was driving a 2005 Chevrolet Silverado westbound on the very same road.

The ATV driver was said to be speeding and dangerously cut to the inside of the curving road, veering directly into the path of the Chevy. Eventually, the two vehicles crashed head-on, throwing the ATV driver into the ground.

The driver of the ATV was rushed to Saint Elizabeth’s Hospital but was later declared dead within the facility. He was not wearing any safety gear at the time of the accident, said the CHP.

The occupants of the Chevy, driver and passenger, appeared to be uninjured immediately following the speeding crash.

Hillcrest Drive was closed off for about 30 minutes as the responding medical personnel helped those involved in the incident.

Additional information was not immediately available. CHP is still investigating the accident.

Don’t Know What To Do After An Accident?

Your safety and rights depend on what you do next after an accident. Remember the following steps if you find yourself in one:

  • Check yourself for any injuries.
  • Stay on the scene, call 9-1-1, and wait for emergency responders.
  • Move your vehicle to the road shoulder if safe; turn on hazard lights.
  • Fully cooperate with law enforcement and stay until cleared to leave.
  • Document the scene and injuries with photos and videos.
  • Seek immediate medical attention.
  • Contact your insurance company and find a personal injury lawyer for legal advice.

What A Lawyer Can Do For You

Many victims put off calling a lawyer even if they sustain injuries after an accident. However, lawyers can help you in many ways. They can provide you with police reports, CCTV footage, and witness statements to strengthen your case. Your attorney will also negotiate with insurance companies to get you fair compensation. The best part is that they will do all of these things for you at no upfront cost. So if you’re injured in an accident, hire a personal injury attorney to recover medical bills, car repair costs, lost wages, and pain and suffering.
