[05-25-2024] Multiple Injuries Reported Following Multi-Vehicle Rear-End Crash in Kearny MesaMultiple injuries were reported following a multi-vehicle rear-end crash in Kearny Mesa, San Diego, on Saturday afternoon, May 25, 2024.

According to the San Diego Police Department, the traffic accident happened at about 1:53 p.m. in the 4400 block of Mercury Street.

SDPD said that an 84-year-old woman was driving her 2012 Honda Fit north on Mercury Street when she failed to safely stop as her vehicle approached the intersection with Balboa Avenue, colliding with the rear end of a stopped car.

The vehicle the elderly driver struck, which a 31-year-old man drove, was pushed forward and crashed into two other vehicles in front.

SDPD said that passengers from the other vehicles involved complained of pain. There is no word yet on the total number of people who complained of such.

Meanwhile, the 84-year-old Honda driver suffered serious but non-life-threatening injuries as a result of the collision. Her injuries include fractured ribs, a punctured lung, abrasions, skin tears, and lacerations.

The police are still investigating the cause of the accident. Alcohol impairment has since been ruled out.
