[05-26-2024] Los Angeles County, CA – At Least One Person Killed Following Multi-Vehicle Collision Involving Big Rig in Newhall

At least one person was killed following a multi-vehicle collision involving a big rig in Newhall, Santa Clarita, on early Sunday morning, May 26, 2024.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the collision happened around 2:00 a.m. on the northbound Golden State (5) Freeway at Weldon Canyon Road.

Authorities reported that a vehicle got crushed between a big rig and another vehicle. A video showed the front of a sedan under the large rig’s trailer, with a pickup truck behind it. The victim’s covered body lay close to the vehicle.

One person was pronounced dead at the scene. The identity of the victim remains unclear. It is unknown whether drugs, alcohol, or speeding played a role in the collision.

The CHP issued SigAlerts for all lanes of the northbound Golden State Freeway near Weldon Canyon Road.

Further information on the collision has yet to be released by the authorities. Investigations are ongoing.
