[05-12-2024] 17-Year-Old Scooter Rider Killed After Being Struck By Hit-And-Run Vehicle on Orange Avenue in Long Beach A 17-year-old scooter rider was killed after being struck by a hit-and-run vehicle in Long Beach on early Sunday morning, May 12, 2024. 

According to the Long Beach Police Department, the crash happened around 1:00 a.m. on Orange Street and South Street. 

Authorities stated that the boy, identified as Brandon C., was riding on his scooter along the roadway when he was hit by a 2012 Cadillac SRX approaching northbound on Orange Avenue. The victim sustained serious injuries and was transported to the hospital, where he later died. Following the collision, the female driver of the vehicle refused to stop and fled the scene.

It was also reported that the vehicle then crashed into a nearby building located at 6100 Orange Avenue. The suspect attempted to flee on foot, but she returned to the scene after a short time. She was identified as 35-year-old Karen M. of Compton.

Police said that the suspect was taken into custody and booked for driving under the influence, hit-and-run resulting in death or injury, and gross vehicular manslaughter. 

The investigation continues.
