[05-13-2024] Shasta County, CA – Pregnant Woman Killed, Male Driver Injured Following Two-Vehicle Head-On Collision Near Cottonwood

[05-13-2024] Pregnant Woman Killed, Male Driver Injured Following Two-Vehicle Head-On Collision Near CottonwoodA pregnant woman was killed, while a male driver was injured following a two-vehicle head-on collision near Cottonwood, Shasta County, early Monday morning, May 13, 2024.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the fatal accident occurred at about 4:40 a.m. along Bowman Road near Adams Road.

CHP officers said that a 33-year-old pregnant woman from Anderson was driving a 2010 Chevy Equinox going west on Bowman Road when, for still-unknown reasons, she crossed the double-yellow lines and went into the opposite lane.

This resulted in the Chevy colliding head-on with an eastbound 2018 Ford F-150 driven by 39-year-old Joshua G. from Cottonwood. Both drivers were reportedly trapped inside their respective vehicles’ wreckage when responders arrived and needed extrication.

The woman, who was about eight to nine months pregnant, died at the hospital along with her unborn child after getting transported. The driver of the F-150 suffered moderate injuries and was taken to Mercy Medical Center in Redding to recover.

Additional details were not immediately provided, and the authorities are still gathering all the necessary information to determine the factors that led to the deadly crash.

Don’t Know What To Do After An Accident?

Your safety and rights depend on what you do next after an accident. Remember the following steps if you find yourself in one:

  • Check yourself for any injuries.
  • Stay on the scene, call 9-1-1, and wait for emergency responders.
  • Move your vehicle to the road shoulder if safe; turn on hazard lights.
  • Fully cooperate with law enforcement and stay until cleared to leave.
  • Document the scene and injuries with photos and videos.
  • Seek immediate medical attention.
  • Contact your insurance company and find a personal injury lawyer for legal advice.

What A Lawyer Can Do For You

Many victims put off calling a lawyer even if they sustain injuries after an accident. However, lawyers can help you in many ways. They can provide you with police reports, CCTV footage, and witness statements to strengthen your case. Your attorney will also negotiate with insurance companies to get you fair compensation. The best part is that they will do all of these things for you at no upfront cost. So if you’re injured in an accident, hire a personal injury attorney to recover medical bills, car repair costs, lost wages, and pain and suffering.
