[05-12-2024] Two People Killed, Three Others Injured Following Two-Vehicle Head-On Crash Near PondTwo people were killed, while three others were injured following a two-vehicle head-on crash near Pond, Kern County, early Sunday morning, May 12, 2024.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the fatal collision happened along northbound Highway 43, north of Pond Road.

The incident involved a northbound Honda and a southbound Dodge. CHP officers said that the Honda suddenly veered to the left as the two cars approached each other along Highway 43. The Dodge driver was unable to avoid the Honda in time, resulting in a head-on collision that involved several people.

The sole occupant of the Honda, the driver, and one of the passengers inside the Dodge died as a result of the accident. 

Meanwhile, the Dodge driver and two other passengers suffered injuries and were taken to a nearby hospital for treatment. The extent of the injuries sustained by the survivors was not disclosed.

The identities, ages, and places of origin of the people involved were not immediately available.

CHP is currently looking at the potential involvement of alcohol or drugs. The cause of the vehicular accident is still under investigation.
