[04-16-2024] One Person Killed, Four Others Injured After Multi-Vehicle Collision in PetalumaOne person was killed, while four others were injured, after a multi-vehicle collision in Petaluma on Tuesday afternoon, April 16, 2024.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the fatal crash happened at about 2:20 p.m. along Lakeville Highway, south of Old Lakeville Road No.3.

CHP said that a northbound Toyota Camry failed to safely slow down before coming to a stop. In an attempt to avoid crashing into the cars ahead, the Toyota driver swerved left, striking the rear of a Nissan Versa instead. The vehicle then overturned into the southbound lane of Lakeville Highway, hitting another car, a Chevy Silverado, head-on.

The first collision reportedly caused the Nissan to crash into a nearby Ford Fusion. As per the reports, there are a total of four vehicles involved.

The Toyota driver, later identified as a 22-year-old man from Rohnert Park, died at the scene. At the same time, the occupants of the Nissan, a driver, and three passengers, all suffered minor injuries and were taken to Petaluma Valley Hospital. The occupants of the other vehicles involved were said to be uninjured. 

It was not immediately clear why the Toyota driver failed to stop safely. Further details pertaining to the incident were not available.
