[09-21-2026] Kern County, CA – Pedestrian Severely Injured After Being Struck by Pickup Truck in Bakersfield

A male pedestrian suffered severe injuries after being struck by a pickup truck on Highway 99 in Bakersfield on Monday evening, September 21, 2026.

According to the California Highway Patrol, officers responded to the incident at around 6:30 p.m. on southbound Highway 99, just north of Panama Lane.

CHP’s preliminary investigation indicated that a Toyota pickup truck was traveling southbound in an unknown lane and at an unknown speed. At the same time, a male pedestrian was walking on the freeway in an unknown direction when the Toyota struck him.

The pedestrian sustained severe injuries and was transported to Kern Medical for treatment.

CHP said the pickup truck driver remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators. Alcohol and/or drugs were not considered factors for the Toyota driver.

The investigation remains ongoing.
