[09-16-2026] Humboldt County, CA – Construction Worker Suffers Major Injuries in Suspected DUI Crash in Eureka

A 20-year-old construction worker suffered major injuries after being struck by an SUV in an active construction zone in Eureka on Wednesday night, September 16, 2026.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the crash occurred at around 11:24 p.m. on U.S. Highway 101, also known as Broadway, near Sunset Drive.

CHP said 26-year-old Selah T. of Carlotta was driving a black 2016 GMC Yukon northbound on Broadway when the SUV crossed from the left lane into a closed right lane within an active Caltrans construction zone.

Investigators said 20-year-old Ronnie F. of McKinleyville was working in the closed lane when the SUV struck him. The construction worker suffered major injuries and was transported to St. Joseph Hospital for treatment.

The driver sustained suspected minor injuries. CHP said she was arrested at the scene on suspicion of an alcohol-related DUI.

The investigation is ongoing.
