[09-05-2026] San Diego County, CA – Bicyclist Seriously Injured in Hit-and-Run Crash in Escondido

A 27-year-old bicyclist suffered life-threatening injuries in a hit-and-run crash in Escondido on Saturday night, September 5, 2026.

According to the Escondido Police Department, the collision occurred around 9:20 p.m. on Washington Avenue.

Authorities stated that a vehicle traveling westbound on Washington Avenue made a right turn and struck the bicyclist, who was riding eastbound in the crosswalk on the north side of the roadway.

The bicyclist was transported to a hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Authorities described the vehicle as a light-colored SUV with tinted windows, possibly a Ford Expedition or Ford Explorer. Police said the driver fled northbound on Ash Street following the collision. The SUV may have front-end damage.

The authorities continue to investigate the hit-and-run crash and are seeking information about the driver and vehicle involved.
